The Silesian Universities Network (SUN), being the initiative of nine public academic units of the Silesian region, was created with the aim of promoting higher education in the area of Silesia, the rest of Poland and in the international circles.
The cooperation platform created under the network agreement as of 4th May 2010 brings together the largest public universities of Silesia:
Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice;
Częstochowa University of Technology;
School of Medicine in Katowice;
Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice;
The Jerzy Kukuczka Academy of Physical Education in Katowice;
The Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice;
University of Bielsko-Biała;
University of Economics in Katowice;
University of Silesia in Katowice.
The initiatives of the Silesian Public Universities result in various activities concentrating on:
internationalization of academic units,
integration of the programs of social service provided to foreign students,
programs aimed at presenting the culture of the region, development of priorities related to the process of lifelong learning, particularly with respect to the improvement of professional competencies of the academic staff as well as education outside the university, offered to the regional community,
joint social and cultural undertakings aimed at international students pursuing part of their studies at the universities of the Consortium,
joint educational undertakings directed at the academic staff working at European affiliate universities, aimed at promotion and focused on sharing the worked out procedures and experience, as part of the internationalization process.
The Universities of the Silesian Universities Network present an interesting educational offer including not only fields of study related to the humanities or science but also to sport, music and art. In total, they bring together over 120 000 students to whom they offer a wide selection of student clubs, sports facilities and many interesting events organized for Polish and foreign students.
